Paulina Zalewska (born in 1981) lives and creates in Lodz in Poland.
A graduate of the Faculty of Graphic Arts and Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts
named after Wladysław Strzeminski in Lodz in Poland. She completed her education
in 2008 with a diploma obtained at the studio of Engraving of Professor Krzysztof
Wawrzyniak and at the painting studio of Professor Ryszard Hunger. She was a
participant and a scholarship holder of graphic workshops at the Kaus Artistic Center
in Urbino, Italy. She was nominated for the award at the XXIV International Small
Graphic Form and Exlibris Biennale in Ostrow Wielkopolski in Poland in 2011. Finalist
of the 43. Biennale of Painting 'Bielska Jesien' 2017 in Bielsko-Biala in Poland. He
cooperates with Polish Auction Houses Desa Unicum, Art in house and Rynek Sztuki in
Poland. Her works decorate the interiors of private collectors in Poland and abroad.
About his creativity he says:
'The technique I paint most often is acrylic on canvas. The reality created in the
picture is precise and clean. The works are a reflection of my imagination, creating a
world of opposing emotions and associations. With contrast colors I mark elements
that could escape the attention. I make you contemplate the details and I encourage
you to get lost in a fairy tale. Through my work, I continue my inquiries and
fascinations about the perception of the real world that surrounds us in correlation
with imagination and dreams. The play of colors completes the distinct and
surrealistic composition. The color in my works is a 'pure form' of my imagination. The
simplicity of the performance in combination with the surreal composition on the
edge of reality and dream and expressive colors are supposed to 'draw' the viewer
into a different world, a 'parallel' world. '
'Currently in painting I am talking about the subject of space, inter alia, urban as an
elementary component of human identity. This space allows the individual to identify
on the basis of fixed elements in a changing reality. One of such elements is the local
folklore defining our symbolic, social and material culture, assuming inconsistent
forms depending on the social group and the ethnographic region. Hence, the current
series of works is entitled "Local Folk".'
